Ankle Awareness and Unexpected Musings

Some astrology and my relationship with the expert structure

Update

November 18, 2024

In the original version of the video, I identified the gastrocnemius as the likely cause of the shaking in my leg when doing closed-chain ankle circles in a seated position. Since my legs are bent, a weak soleus, not gastroc, would be the more likely cause. I updated the video with text to indicate the soleus. I also took out my reflection on which head of the gastroc might be more implicated as, while the gastroc is not completely irrelevant, it’s not as primary.

Not sure why I got that wrong in the video and then missed it in editing. One thing that is becoming clear as I continue with this Substack journey is that I will need a partner at some point to help catch my mistakes :).

Video Summary

No article today. Just a video. In it, I share an ankle mobility awareness drill that I’ve started doing in addition to the scapula and pelvis awarenesses exercises I showed in previous videos.

As my illness prevents me from doing fitness the usual way, it is opening up another way, one that I believe gets at the heart of why this illness manifested in the first place and has been so stubborn in leaving. I am downright excited by this new opening - to explore it and flesh it out. (Is that a pun?). I feel like I’m finally understanding what I wanted in life.

I also quite unexpectedly went on a couple of astrological riffs. If you follow my Astrology Journal Substack, you will recognize the themes as I talked about them in the Taurus Full Moon video I posted a couple days ago. Hopefully, the thoughts I share in this video in the context of fitness offer insight.

Finally, I share a contrarian perspective on the expert culture, one that is rooted in my personal journey and that is very individual and unique to me. Perhaps it will give you some insight into why I value experimentation and the mistakes and failures that come with that approach as much as I do.

I’m a little under the weather so I’ll end it there. Thanks so much for tuning in.
